nfl’s worst owner goes green
19/09/2011Via DCist Redskins Install Solar Panels at FedEx Field:
Yesterday Snyder and executives from power company NRG unveiled a new installation of solar panels outside of FedEx Field, the largest of its kind at an NFL stadium. According to a press release, the 8,000 solar panels will provide 20 percent of the stadium’s power on game day and 100 percent on non-game days, while offering shade to 841 cars in the parking lot. Moreover, the panels will power 10 charging stations for electric cars like the Chevy Volt. According to the team, the power generated by the panels will help keep 1,780 metric tons of carbon out of the atmosphere each year, roughly what 349 cars would produce.
I am no fan of Dan Snyder — generally I think he’s a pompous ass who has driven the team into the ground and has finally, after years in the wilderness, realized he should let people who know what they’re doing run the team. That said, this is a pretty impressive green move for Snyder and the ‘Skins. And now they’re 2-0, so Go ‘Skins!
