link: gowalla goes after social good as differentiator

Via Mashable:  Gowalla Goes to Digital Farmer’s Market to Do Good:

Gowalla, positioning itself as an active alternative to Foursquare, is branding itself as a platform built around action — hence Gowalla. The call for stories and images helps drive community. … Gowalla hopes that social good partnerships like this inspire its community members to set up their own projects, whether it be a common interest or an important cause.

Gowalla looks to differentiate itself from Foursquare by going after social good. I haven’t used Gowalla (I just signed up for an account), but when I’ve talked to others about the differences between Gowalla and Foursquare, I’ve heard that the former is a richer experience built around story telling more than gaming.

I use Foursquare now mostly as a way to push location notifications to Twitter and Facebook, so it doesn’t really matter much which of these services I use. This article, and Gowalla’s commitment to social good, has prompted me to switch to Gowalla for a bit to see if I like it more, or even notice a difference.
